The Cheapening of Sexuality
There is a very important new book out by a leading sociologist and a good friend of Focus on the Family. Mark Regnerus’ Cheap Sex: The Transformation of Men, Marriage and Monogamy is an intelligent and deeply researched book on how women, marriage, children, and even men have been hurt by the cheapening of sex in our culture today. Not just that sex is not regarded highly, but that it is actually given away at no price whatsoever and how this has affected the well-being of women, men, and their children.
Here is a very helpful review of the book by another good friend of ours, Helen Alvaré, and here is an article that addresses this same issue, showing how women, as the gatekeepers of sexuality, are actually the more powerful players in society, when they demand that marriage comes before sex.
The Assurance of Original Sin
In Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton has this to say about the world’s silly discussion on the reality of sin.
“Certain new theologians dispute original sin, which is the only part of Christian theology which can really be proved. Some of these, in their almost fastidious spirituality, admit divine sinlessness, which they cannot see in their dreams. But they essentially deny human sin, which they can see in the street.”
