Are Male and Female Real?
We live in a culture that seems to be increasingly challenging the truth that male and female are real and distinct things. They only seem to be real if one “feels” they are so. But we must remember that God created humanity in His likeness, “male and female He created them.”
There is a massive body of research revealing how unique and distinct male and female are, not just in their external bodies, but down to the very depths of who they are. And this is true across all cultures. We have a new research piece which highlights and explores these very interesting research findings.
The Divinely Symbolic Nature of Marriage
“Moody Radio’s Julie Roys has just written a noteworthy new book on understanding and redeeming the essence of femininity in the world. Among the important things Julie gives her readers, she quotes two respected theologians on the truth of how marriage itself reveals the very heart and nature of God and His Kingdom. Let me share those quotes with you:
Dennis Hollinger, President and professor at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, explains how the marital union is a mysterious icon of the Trinity:
“In sex, a couple reflects something of the very image of God, for it points to a oneness for two which mirrors the oneness of the Triune Godhead.”
And marriage does this like no other union can. She also quotes my good friend Russell Moore, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention:
“The family structure is not an arbitrary expression of nature or of the will of God. Marriage and family are instead archetypes, icons of God’s purpose in the universe.”
Indeed they are and this underlies all of our work to defend, form, and strengthen the goodness of marriage and family in our communities.
