The Heartbreak that Love Creates
The unbounded joy of love is obvious to every human being older than three years of age. But what about when our souls are absolutely shattered by the loss of love itself? It is often the greatest pain humans can face. We offer wisdom and insight for your congregation here.
“Let us not deceive ourselves. A Jewish teacher [great moral teacher, mere man of miracles, political liberator] of the first century can never satisfy the longing of our souls. Clothe Him with all the art of modern research, throw upon Him the warm deceptive calcium-light of modern sentimentality; and despite it all, common sense will come to rights again, and our brief hour of self-deception – as though we had been with Jesus – will wreak upon us the revenge of hopeless disillusionment.
Certainly we shall remain forever in the gloom if we attend merely to the character that Christ is and neglect the thing He has done, if we try to attend to the Person and miss the message.”
